The cabinet also approved constructing a 50 MLD raw water pumping station near the Selaulim dam

Panaji: The state cabinet on Saturday approved shifting the proposed barrage and 50 MLD raw water pumping station from Mirabag to Panchawadi to ensure an uninterrupted supply of raw water to the drinking water treatment plant at Panchawadi in Shiroda, South Goa. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 228 crore. The proposal involves augmenting the Panchawadi dam to ensure a 100% dependable supply of raw water to the Panchawadi (Maishal) treatment plant by changing the site of the barrage and pumping station from Mirabag in Sanvordem to Panchawadi. The cabinet also approved constructing a 50 MLD raw water pumping station near the Selaulim dam, along the Selaulim irrigation project (SIP) canal, to augment the minor irrigation tank at Panchawadi. The plan involves drawing water from the Selaulim dam reservoir by constructing a pumphouse and installing pumps and motors near the main canal. The alignment of the gravity and rising mains, along with the designs and drawings, will be modified as required. Pipelines will be laid along the SIP canal within the acquired land and along the PWD road. The project also involves an approximately 170-metre underwater crossing of the Zuari river, for which a no-objection certificate will be obtained from the concerned department before work begins. The cabinet approved using materials worth around Rs 80.5 crore, including pumps, motors, ductile iron (DI) pipes and other allied items already procured for the original project, at the revised site. Additional materials will be procured as required under the new alignment. The barrage construction component will be dropped and replaced with the supply, laying and commissioning of 13.8 km of 700 mm-diameter DI pipeline.“These additional lengths are due to change of alignment/site. To be implemented as substituted items as per CPWD Works Manual 2014. Procured gates shall be utilised whenever a new barrage is approved, where these gates can be installed,” the cabinet said.It added that the work would be carried out by the agencies awarded the original contracts at their quoted rates, with the scope, alignment and design modified as technically required. The changes would be implemented as deviation, extra and substituted items in accordance with the CPWD Works Manual 2014.
