Hyderabad: The Hyderabad cybercrime police have registered a criminal case against the administrators of a Facebook page for allegedly circulating a defamatory and AI-manipulated video targeting Telangana minister D Sridhar Babu and his wife, senior IAS officer Shailaja Ramaiyer. The case was registered based on a complaint lodged by advocate Shashi Bhushan Kashe, a member of the State Advisory Committee of the Telangana State Electricity Commission. He alleged that administrators of a Facebook page, ‘BRS Party Manthani,’ had posted a reel spreading false information about the minister.According to the complaint, the video used AI-generated and digitally manipulated images of the minister and Shailaja Ramaiyer, principal secretary of the Endowments Department, to insinuate corruption and embezzlement linked to the recent Saraswati Pushkaram event at Kaleshwaram, which both had helped administer in their official capacities.Based on the complaint, cybercrime police have registered a case under Sections 336(4) (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation), 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the BNS on June 27.
