PAU’s eternal bard: Agri varsity honours Dr Surjit Patar’s legacy
During the discussion on Patar’s life, students shared perspectives on the impact of his writings on younger generations

Ludhiana: The Dr Surjit Patar chair at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a special commemorative event to honour the life, literary works, and teaching legacy of the late eminent Punjabi poet, scholar, and thinker.Speaking on the occasion, former director of students welfare Dr Nirmal Jaura noted that Dr Patar taught at PAU for a long period, introducing students to “word-culture” while guiding them through the beauty and depth of poetry. He added that the university takes immense pride in his association and announced that the chair is planning a series of future programmes to continuously deliberate upon and celebrate his work.Current director of student welfare Dr Kamaljit Singh Suri emphasised the importance of connecting students with arts and literature, confirming that joint events will be held regularly with the Dr Surjit Patar chair.During the discussion on Patar’s life, students shared perspectives on the impact of his writings on younger generations. Harman Singh Mann, a PhD student in the department of extension education, recited a dedicated poem titled ‘Patar tu surjit rahenga’ (Patar, you will remain Surjit).Highlighting his global legacy, associate director of cultural activities Dr Rupinder Kaur stated that Patar elevated the status of the Punjabi language worldwide through his original poetry, translated plays, and songs, bringing lasting honour to the institution.
