Amritsar: Amritsar Rural police have arrested three family members and seized over 10 kg of heroin and two assault rifles — an AK-47 and an AK-56 —, three magazines and 10 live cartridges, dismantling a cross-border smuggling network operating via drones from Pakistan.The accused have been identified as Sandeep Singh (32) and his wife Kamaljit Kaur (31), both from Brar village, and her brother Bikramjit Singh (23) of Gumanpura village.Inspector general, border range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, told mediapersons on Tuesday that the group coordinated with foreign-based handlers to retrieve drug and weapon consignments dropped by drones from across the border. He said the suspects had leased a one-acre guava orchard in Modhe village, just 500 metres from the India-Pakistan border fence, using it as a drop zone.Sandeep Singh, a history-sheeter, faces four criminal cases, including under Arms Act and NDPS Act.
