Overcharging: Passenger fights to get back Rs 11 from railway vendor

Bengaluru: A cold drink vendor at Tumakuru railway station, who collected an extra Rs 11 from a passenger, was forced to refund the money following an online complaint.The incident was reported Tuesday after Bhuvan, a passenger, bought a bottle of water and a soft drink. The water had an MRP of Rs 14 and the soft drink Rs 35. Instead of Rs 49, the vendor forced Bhuvan to pay Rs 60.As Bhuvan filed a complaint on RailMadad online portal, the chief commercial inspector of South Western Railway’s (SWR) Bengaluru division inquired into the matter and found the complaint to be genuine.“The vendor was hence directed to refund the excess amount to the passenger. Further, a penalty of Rs 1,000 was imposed on the vendor for overcharging… The portal aims to enhance the passenger experience by facilitating swift and satisfactory redressal of grievances. Passengers can lodge complaints or submit suggestions relating to trains and railway stations through RailMadad,” SWR said in a statement.
