Over 3k lives lost in road accidents in Haryana in 2025

Chandigarh: Haryana recorded 6,480 road accidents and 3,059 deaths in 2025, the highest in the seven years since 2019, according to data tabled in the state assembly on Monday.The figures, furnished in response to an unstarred question by Congress MLA Aditya Surjewala, show that deaths in road accidents have remained high despite efforts to identify and rectify accident-prone stretches.The data covers accidents on state highways and district roads. In 2025, district roads accounted for 4,907 accidents and 2,149 deaths, while state highways recorded 1,573 accidents and 910 deaths. As many as 5,084 people were injured in these accidents during the year.The death toll in 2025 was higher than the 2,756 fatalities recorded in 2024 and 2,995 in 2023. In 2022, the state recorded 6,101 accidents and 2,771 deaths.In 2021, 6,220 accidents and 2,856 fatalities were recorded, while in 2020, these numbers stood at 6,026 and 2,716, respectively. Also, 6,444 accidents and 3,002 deaths were registered across Haryana in 2019.The latest figures show that the problem was acute in several high-traffic districts. In 2025, Gurgaon reported 860 accidents on district roads with 304 fatalities, while Karnal recorded 443 accidents and 204 deaths. Panipat reported 330 accidents and 188 deaths, and Faridabad 425 accidents and 165 deaths. Palwal recorded 355 accidents and 150 deaths.Govt’s record on black-spot rectification also shows a sharp backlog. Against the identification of 454 black spots between 2023 and 2025, only 71 had been rectified.Of the remaining 383 black spots, 332 are being verified and rectified by the National Highways Authority of India, while 51 are with the state agencies.
