Outer ring road to ease congestion for 2 lakh RNE residents

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Development Authority will develop a 5.8-km stretch from City Forest to Duhai to offer increased connectivity to RNE and Madhuban townships. The road, which will be 45 m wide, will also help combat traffic congestion around upcoming townships and projects in the area.GDA vice chairperson Nand Kishore Kalal said that the project is set to come up at a cost of around Rs 91 crore. Additionally, Rs 15 crore has been set aside to set up the road median, traffic lights and pedestrian pathways. Kalal said the project will benefit around 2 lakh residents living in societies like RNE.The stretch passes through Noornagar, Morti, Attor, Bhowapur, Morta, Shahpur Nij Morta — areas where the Harnandipuram township, Aero City project and the international cricket stadium are coming up.“It will also serve as an alternate route for commuters travelling to Muradnagar and Modinagar and beyond, bypassing busy stretches and without entering the main city areas. As of now, the area could be accessed through GT Road, NH9, which during peak hours remains in perpetual jam,” he added.A recent GDA study showed that movement in and around the proposed stadium could add major challenges to already congested stretches in the area. Existing congestion and limited road capacity on approach roads are likely to worsen with the stadium traffic influx, it stated.New roads forming multiple T-junctions require proper channelisation and traffic control to avoid conflicts. Key junctions need redesign to handle future traffic demand from growth in Rajnagar Extension and event crowds. Well-planned entry/exit points are essential to prevent spillback, ensure smooth merging, and maintain safety, the study said.Kalal said the outer ring road project will be wide enough to address the traffic issues posed by the stadium.
