Bengaluru: The food safety and drug administration department conducted a special inspection drive on sweets manufacturing units across Karnataka Monday. It inspected 16 establishments, seizing food products worth around Rs 6 lakh over various violations.The drive was conducted on the directions of health and family welfare minister UT Khader in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Hubballi-Dharwad.Officials collected samples of sweets, cooking oil, curd, pulses, chickpeas, jalebi and tea powder, among other products, and sent them to labs for analysis.The officials seized five litres of expired Nandini curd, besides 13 large and six small packets of chocolate decoration products for improper labelling. They also seized 10kg of chocolate flavour and 5kg rasgulla.Around 60kg of products, including banana chips and chakli masala, were found to be misbranded and lacking mandatory details such as the manufacturer’s name and address and FSSAI licence number.The enforcement action also resulted in the seizure of 367kg ready-to-eat savouries, 4kg cocoa powder, 4.5kg cracked cocoa beans, 6kg khova and 196kg fennel powder.The department said further legal action would be initiated against establishments found violating food safety regulations.
