Noida launches month-long fogging, anti-dengue drive

Noida: The Noida Authority has launched a month-long fogging and anti-larval drive across the city to curb mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases during the monsoon.Four Tata Ace vehicles equipped with fogging machines and anti-larval spray have been deployed across residential sectors and villages.Kapil Singh, senior manager, Noida Authority, said four health department teams have been assigned different parts of the city. “Four health department teams equipped with machines and fogging spray have been deployed across the city. On Wednesday, the teams covered Sectors 6, 7, 15A, 57, 58, 59, 60, 88, 127, 128, 132, 134 and Phase 2,” he said.A health worker associated with the drive said each team covers two to three sectors daily, with fogging and anti-larval spraying carried out between 5 pm and 8 pm. On Thursday, the teams were scheduled to cover Sectors 15, 16, 16A, 17, 19, 27, 83, 130 and 135, among other areas.Health experts said dengue cases typically rise during the monsoon as rainwater creates breeding grounds for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.Dr DK Gupta, chairman of Felix Hospital in Sector 137, urged residents to prevent waterlogging in coolers, flowerpots and other containers, and advised the use of mosquito repellents, mosquito nets and full-sleeved clothing.Noida recorded 695 dengue and 192 malaria cases last year.
