Gurgaon: MCG is planning to appoint an agency to manage fresh municipal waste at Bandhwari landfill. The contract will be for one year and the project is estimated to cost around Rs 2 crore.According to MCG, to manage the city’s current waste generation of 1,515 tonnes per day, new workers and a manager will have to be employed by the agency. An MCG official told TOI, “There are already two agencies working at the site, but they only manage the legacy waste. The proposed agency will manage the fresh waste.”MCG officials, however, added that the appointment is a temporary measure to manage the waste till it identifies and transfers operations to another site.Environmental activist Vaishali Rana said, “NGT has told MCG to stop dumping fresh waste at the Bandhwari landfill.” She suggested that the corporation should instead focus on decentralisation of waste processing. The agency will regulate movement of trucks on specific routes and ensure that the garbage is spread out to avoid the formation of new mounds.
