Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged the Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on housing and urban affairs to use its good offices and ensure that the Central govt extends support to key projects aimed at making Hyderabad a signal-free and traffic-free city. He said the support was also needed for initiatives to reduce pollution, including the Musi rejuvenation, Metro rail expansion, EV adoption, and other major urban development projects. The PSC held an official review meeting at the Secretariat as part of its ongoing study on urban development and housing initiatives, wherein the CM and senior officials presented the Telangana govt’s plan through PowerPoint presentations. The plan includes constructing underpasses, surface roads and an elevated corridor network.Multi-level parking facilities and multimodal transport systems also need to be developed to ease traffic congestion in the city. The standing committee chairperson, Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and other members, including Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy from Telangana, held discussions on ongoing projects, implementation challenges, and future action plans.CM Revanth said widening roads alone was not sufficient to effectively manage vehicular traffic, and stressed the need for a multimodal approach to transport infrastructure.“To address parking challenges, we are establishing multi-level parking facilities across the city. In key areas, we have adopted a multi-pronged strategy to facilitate smoother traffic flow through underpasses, surface roads, and elevated corridors,” Revanth said.He highlighted the govt’s plans to develop the state by categorising it into three distinct zones — CURE, PURE and RARE. Stating that the govt has already unveiled the ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ vision for the comprehensive development of the state, the CM briefed the committee on measures taken to reduce air pollution in Hyderabad and the development of the Musi Riverfront to conserve nature and preserve the city’s cultural fabric.“The state govt is committed to systematically developing Hyderabad, especially the CURE region within the Outer Ring Road limits, by addressing the comprehensive challenges currently facing the area and aligning its growth with future requirements. To reduce air pollution, EV buses and electric autos are being introduced,” Revanth said. The CM appealed to the standing committee to take the initiative in seeking cooperation from the Central govt to further accelerate the city’s development.Chief secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and senior officials from the state and central govts were also present at the meeting.
