Jaipur man allegedly planned eldest daughter’s killing, then targeted entire family

Jaipur: A day after arresting Rahul Jha for allegedly killing his wife and three daughters, police Monday said he initially planned to kill only his eldest daughter but later decided to kill the entire family.According to police, Jha told investigators that he feared his wife and two other daughters would be left without anyone to care for them if he was arrested for killing his eldest daughter. He allegedly claimed that he then decided to kill all four.Police are corroborating his claims with forensic evidence, CCTV footage and the sequence emerging from the crime scene.Deputy commissioner of police (West) Prashant Kiran told TOI that Jha had become increasingly suspicious of his eldest daughter and was monitoring her activities. “He accused her of lying about her job and relationships and objected to her using her phone late at night, claiming it disturbed the family’s sleep. He told us she had different male companions almost every month, which he disliked and disapproved of,” Kiran said.Police said Jha’s suspicions allegedly peaked around 5.30am on Sept 11, when he saw his eldest daughter cleaning utensils after apparently staying awake through the night. “He suspected she had been speaking to a male friend despite repeatedly warning her not to. That’s when he allegedly decided to kill her,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.Jha allegedly told police that he then began thinking about who would look after his wife and two other daughters after his arrest. He reportedly feared that the family would be left without financial support and might resort to “illegal practices”. Police said he allegedly concluded that killing all four would solve the problem.Investigators found no indication that the victims had been sedated. As it was a holiday, they had planned to sleep late. Police said the victims were attacked with a cinder block while asleep.According to investigators, the killings took place between 7am and 7.20am. Jha allegedly first attacked his wife and youngest daughter, followed by his other two daughters. He left the house around 8.15am after offering tea to his father.Jha was traced through CCTV footage and arrested in Reengus, Sikar, Sunday. He was produced before a court Monday and sent to two days’ police remand.
