Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to award Rs 51,000 to a Pakistan-based Sikh boy, Onkar Singh, for securing the second rank in the neighbouring country’s Punjab province in the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education’s annual matriculation examination.SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said the executive committee took the decision at a recent meeting to encourage the student’s academic achievement.Mannan said Onkar had also secured second position in the Class IX examination and maintained a consistent record of academic excellence. He said the achievement was particularly significant as Onkar belonged to the minority Sikh community of Pakistan and expressed hope he would continue to excel.Onkar’s father, Mimpal Singh, is a member of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and has contributed to the medical and academic fields, Mannan said.
