Panaji: Goa’s monsoon rainfall deficit persisted at 36.2% despite receiving near-normal rainfall on Wednesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).The state recorded an average of 37.8mm of rainfall against the normal 37.2mm, a marginal surplus of 1.5% for the day. However, cumulative rainfall since June 1 stood at 1,063.8mm, well below the normal 1,668.6mm.North Goa received 31.4mm of rain against a normal of 36.6mm, a daily deficit of 14.3%. Its cumulative rainfall reached 971.4mm, remaining 43% below normal.South Goa recorded 43.4 mm of rainfall against the normal 37.7mm, a surplus of 15.2% for the day. Despite this, the district continues to report a seasonal deficit of 30%, with 1,145.3mm of rainfall against the normal 1,639.1mm.The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Thursday, forecasting moderate rainfall across Goa. It has also warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places accompanied by gusty winds of 40-50kmph.
