Vasco: Following Bombay high court directions, members of the Murgaocha Raja Ganeshotsav Mandal on Tuesday demolished a Ganeshotsav mandap (shed) illegally built in 2009 on Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) land at the Headland–Sada junction.Removal work began in the morning and was completed by the afternoon. The demolition took place in the presence of the chief officer of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), Siddhivinayak Naik.Although the court had ordered the structure’s removal more than a month earlier, the action was postponed because Naik, the designated enforcement authority, could not remain at the site due to health issues. The mandal later approached HC and sought additional time to dismantle the structure.The MPA had objected to the unauthorised construction from the start. After failing to obtain relief from state govt authorities, it moved HC, which issued demolition directions two months ago.
