Lucknow: The distinctive charm of Awadhi language and culture came alive as attendees from Lucknow along with the neighbouring regions around the city celebrated its grace during the Museum Mixer event organised by Lucknow Bioscope on Sunday.Poet Shadab Javed spoke about the language’s deep connection with Ayodhya and explained how the dialect changes every 240 km, giving different regions their own expressions and style.About an encounter in Delhi, Javed recalled how he left a shopkeeper confused when he used ‘ham’ instead of ‘main’. “That moment made me realise how uniquely we represent our identity,” he said.Sandila resident Abhishek Dixit recalled Awadhi idioms such as ‘Soop bole toh bole, chhalni kya bole,’ a popular idiomatic expression that translates broadly as the pot calling the kettle black, highlighting humour embedded in everyday speech.Javed also emphasised the growing interest in learning Awadhi, sharing how friends often ask him to teach them the dialect, drawn to its trendy style.Rafiq Shadani’s ‘Ullu Ho’ (you fool) and ‘Kupanthi Aulaad’ (wayward offspring) echoed through the gathering, bringing the speech’s literary tradition to life.“Such events strengthen our bond with who we are and where we belong,” said Rishika Tiwari, a team member.
