Silchar: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will address a BJP rally in Silchar on Sept 30 ahead of the Oct 3 municipal corporation election.Senior BJP functionaries met at the Cachar district BJP office on Sunday to finalise arrangements for the rally and review campaign strategy.Party sources said the meeting discussed coordination of campaign programmes and mobilisation of workers and supporters for Sarma’s rally. His visit is expected to give BJP’s campaign a final push before the polls.The election will be the first for the newly constituted 42-ward Silchar Municipal Corporation. BJP nominees Bijendra Prasad Singh from Ward 9 and Bhakti Sen Talukder from Ward 20 have already been elected unopposed, leaving 133 candidates in the fray for the remaining 40 wards.Urban development and civic infrastructure are at the centre of BJP’s campaign. The party recently released its “Municipal Area Development Sankalp Patra”, outlining plans for civic infrastructure and essential amenities in Silchar.Polling will be held on Oct 3, and counting on Oct 6.
