Surat: Surat’s major infrastructure projects have triggered a public health concern, with mosquito breeding detected at 208 locations, including sites linked to the Metro project and Surat Integrated Transportation Development Corporation Ltd (SITCO), developer of the Multi-Modal Transport Hub.The SMC’s Vector Borne Disease Control Department surveyed 3,063 spots across 43 under-construction sites and found breeding at 208 locations. Teams carried out source reduction at 173 spots and undertook preventive spraying.Blood samples of 779 workers were collected for screening, given their higher exposure to mosquito breeding in construction zones and labour camps.Notices were issued to 17 sites, directing officials to rectify the situation within seven days. The SMC has collected Rs 61,500 in fines from violators.Officials said repeated breeding at large, ongoing construction sites remained a major concern.
