Shillong: A total of 6,51,644 electors in Meghalaya have been flagged for scrutiny and appropriate action as per prescribed procedure, chief electoral officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari said on Tuesday.A detailed review was conducted of electors requiring further scrutiny during the “notice and hearing” phase. Across the state, 2,22,786 electors have been identified under the “No Mapping” category, while 4,28,858 have been flagged for discrepancies in mapping with previous SIR 2025 records.The discrepancies identified through ECINET include: mismatch between an elector’s name and the name in SIR 2005 records; mismatch in the parent’s name as recorded in 2005; an age difference between elector and parent of less than 15 years or more than 50 years; an age gap of less than nine months between siblings linked to the same parent; more than six children linked to the same parent; and an age difference of less than 40 years between an elector and grandparent, the CEO said.Tiwari held a virtual meeting with deputy commissioners/district election officers, electoral registration officers and other officials to review the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026, following the publication of the draft electoral rolls for all 60 Assembly constituencies on August 5, 2026.The CEO directed officials to scrutinise such cases carefully and ensure notices are generated, printed and served on time, according to an official statement.After receiving a notice, the elector may appear before election officials and submit the prescribed supporting documents.The period for filing claims and objections is from August 5 to September 4. The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue until October 3, 2026. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7, 2026.The CEO reiterated that no name in the draft electoral roll will be deleted without due process.
