Months after marriage, Bengaluru woman dies by suicide

Bengaluru: A 31-year-old newlywed woman died after allegedly consuming poison in Nelamangala, with police suspecting she took the extreme step after a conversation with her husband, who said he won’t be coming home immediately.Tanuja, a native of Beerammanahalli village in Gauribidanur, died while undergoing treatment at Nelamangala govt hospital early Monday. Police said the incident took place Sunday night.Tanuja fell in love with Ravindra, a resident of Mayasandra in Yelahanka, and married around six months ago. They tied the knot in their families’ absence with just their friends in attendance at Dharmasthala, sources said.However, Ravindra later told Tanuja he would inform his family about their marriage after some time. Until then, she continued to live separately in a rented house near Yelahanka, police said.On Sunday afternoon, Tanuja reportedly called Ravindra and asked him to come home so that they could go out. Police said Ravindra informed her he was at his parents’ house and would come the following morning.Police said Tanuja became distressed after the conversation and switched off her mobile phone. At 10am, Ravindra reportedly received a message from Tanuja stating she’d consumed poison. Ravindra rushed to her house and shifted her to Nelamangala govt hospital.
