Monsoon readiness: UT directs officials to fast-track key works

Chandigarh: With the monsoon around the corner, UT chief engineer C B Ojha conducted a city-wide inspection, directing officials to expedite groundwork and ensure timely completion of all essential works. Accompanied by superintending and executive engineers and other officials, he reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects and assessed preparedness to tackle seasonal challenges.He assessed road gullies, road cleanliness, tree pruning, and desilting of Patiala Ki Rao — a key component of the city’s drainage network. He directed officials to fast-track desilting and complete maximum work ahead of the rains to ensure smooth stormwater flow and prevent waterlogging in vulnerable areas.The chief engineer emphasized that regular cleaning of road gullies is crucial for effective urban flood management. He instructed field staff to maintain strict supervision over these activities and ensure that all road gullies remain free from silt, debris and other obstructions.Later, Ojha visited Kurukshetra hostel at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) and the hostel block at Government College, Sector 46, where various finishing works are currently in progress. He inspected the quality and pace of construction and reviewed the remaining civil, electrical, plumbing and allied works.Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved so far, he directed the officers and executing agencies of the engineering department to complete the hostel projects at the earliest without compromising on quality standards. He stressed that timely completion of these facilities is important so that students can avail themselves of hostel accommodation from the upcoming academic session.The chief engineer reiterated the engineering department commitment towards strengthening civic infrastructure, improving public amenities and ensuring efficient delivery of services.
