Ahmedabad: At 40.6 degrees celsius, the city’s maximum temperature on Sunday was a little lower than Saturday’s 41.3 degrees celsius. While the partially cloudy sky and breeze hinted at the timely onset of southwest monsoon by Monday, the weather office said that any such celebration will have to wait.Sunday’s maximum temperature was 0.9 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature, at 29 degrees celsius, was 1 degree above the range. Relative humidity was 68% at 8.30am and 33% at 5.30pm.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast Monday’s maximum temperature to be around 41 degrees celsius. IMD stated that chances of timely onset of southwest monsoon on June 15 are very slim, with the northern limit recorded around Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra on Sunday. This means there will be no respite from high heat for the next few days. Later in the week, some parts of south Gujarat may experience light to moderate rainfall. Cities and towns that recorded temperatures of over 40 degrees on Sunday included Bhavnagar (41.4 degrees) and VV Nagar (40.1 degrees).
