Jammikunta: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP were the true successors to Mahatma Gandhi, as they were working to realise the ideals of “Ram Rajya” envisioned by the freedom fighter.Speaking after paying floral tributes to Gandhi’s statue in Jammikunta on Gandhi Jayanti, Bandi Sanjay said Gandhi’s life was built around truth, righteousness and justice, and that he had never sought power, wealth or family succession. He said Gandhi lived a simple life, slept on bare floors and remained closely connected with ordinary people. He said Gandhi was a practising Hindu who respected the good in other faiths and regarded Lord Ram as a symbol of truth, justice and values that people should follow. He questioned Congress leaders and chief minister Revanth Reddy over their description of Lord Ram as the “god of the rich”, asking whether the Ram worshipped by Gandhi could be characterised in such terms. He said Gandhi had envisioned a society without differences between the rich and poor and argued that Modi and BJP were working towards those ideals through initiatives such as Swachh Bharat. The Union minister also slammed Congress, alleging that it had moved away from Gandhi’s principles and was pursuing family politics and corruption. He said Gandhi had never promoted dynastic succession or personal power and claimed that Modi’s emphasis on cleanliness, development and public service reflected Gandhi’s vision. He described Gandhi as a symbol of simplicity and moral values and said BJP regarded his ideals as central to its political approach.
