Ludhiana: Commuters travelling on the Model Town-Dugri road in Ludhiana are facing severe safety hazards due to deep, unattended potholes on a stretch that was dug up nearly six months ago for a surface water supply project.The road was excavated for the 24×7 surface water supply project but has remained unrepaired ever since. Conditions worsen dramatically after rainfall, when water-filled craters become invisible, forcing two-wheeler riders and motorists to suddenly swerve or slow down, increasing the risk of skidding and collisions.The stretch experiences high traffic volumes during morning and afternoon peak hours due to the presence of nearby schools, a temple, and a cremation ground.Local commuters and residents have called on the municipal corporation to execute complete road resurfacing rather than temporary patchwork. “There is temple, cremation ground on this road and many schools are nearby but authorities completely ignore the road,” regular visitor Harman Malhotra said, adding that authorities must treat repairs as a priority to prevent fatal accidents.Responding to the concerns, a municipal corporation official stated that the private contractor handling the water supply project is responsible for restoring the road. The official noted that monsoon rains have stalled construction work, assuring that repairs will be undertaken on a priority basis once the weather improves.
