Mizoram woman held in husband murder case

Aizawl: A 38-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her husband inside their rented home at Chawngte C, also known as Kamalanagar, in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Bipin Kumar Chakma (45), while his wife, Lokhi Mala, was taken into custody soon after the incident.Police said the couple, originally from Sumsilui village, earned their livelihood by selling liquor in the area. Their son, Mehery Chakma, had been studying outside the state. Bipin Kumar had recently returned from Silchar, Assam, where he claimed to have been robbed of money and liquor. The assault reportedly occurred shortly after he and his son reached home.Neighbours alerted police after hearing a commotion from the couple’s room. Officers arrived and disarmed Lokhi Mala, who was found with the weapon. Bipin Kumar was declared dead at the scene.A forensic team from Lunglei district collected evidence, and police are investigating the motive behind the killing. Preliminary inquiries suggest the incident may have stemmed from a dispute related to Bipin Kumar’s alleged robbery in Silchar.
