Mizoram tops CBSE Class 12 in NE with 94.94% pass rate

Guwahati: CBSE Class 12 results brought cheers for the northeast, with five of the eight states in the Guwahati region — Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Mizoram — recording pass percentages above the national average of 85.20%. Mizoram topped the region with 94.94%.Although the national pass percentage dropped by about three percentage points from last year, three northeastern states improved their performance, whereas pass percentage declined in five. Going with the all-India trend, girls outperformed boys in all northeastern states except Mizoram.Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura recorded improvement in pass percentage from last year, whereas Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur recorded decline in pass percentage.In Mizoram, the overall pass percentage was 94.94%, with boys at 95.19% and girls at 94.69%. Meghalaya recorded 91.9%, with girls at 93.22% and boys at 90.54%. Sikkim posted 91.25%, with girls at 92.07% and boys at 90.16%. Nagaland recorded 86.55%, with girls at 91.44% and boys at 82.26%.Assam registered 85.66%, with girls at 88.16% and boys at 83.45%.In conflict-hit Manipur, CBSE schools performed better than in some other northeastern states, but the overall pass percentage fell by a little over four points from last year. The state recorded 82.40%, with girls at 83.17% and boys at 81.66%.Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura were at the bottom of the regional list. Tripura recorded 79.19%, with girls at 80.62% and boys at 77.85%. Arunachal Pradesh posted the lowest pass percentage in the Guwahati region at 78.59%, with girls at 80.47% and boys at 76.52%.The highest number of students appeared from Assam at 18,237, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 12,898, Tripura with 10,167, Manipur with 6,170, Sikkim with 5,944, Meghalaya with 1,691, Nagaland with 1,427 and Mizoram with 415.Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, both run by the central govt, recorded pass percentages above 95% in most northeastern states and emerged as the best-performing school categories.
