Lucknow: Prime Minister’s birthday was marked in Lucknow on Wednesday with a citywide cleanliness drive covering all 110 wards of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC).Organised under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, the drive began at 6am across all eight civic zones. Finance and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna inaugurated the campaign at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Hazratganj crossing in the presence of Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar and corporators.The area around the Gandhi statue was cleaned and floral tributes were offered. Similar drives were held around the statues of BR Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Veerangana Avantibai Lodhi. Khanna said the campaign was organised to promote cleanliness and public participation on the Prime Minister’s birthday. He said cleanliness was a shared responsibility of the civic body and citizens and appealed to residents to join the drive.Kharkwal said the campaign was aimed at taking forward the Swachh Bharat message through public participation. She urged residents to avoid littering and cooperate with the LMC. An officer has been assigned to each ward to supervise sanitation work, including garbage collection and cleaning of public spaces. Zonal officers are monitoring the drive in their respective zones.The campaign is being conducted under the supervision of additional municipal commissioners Pankaj Srivastava, Abhinav Ranjan Srivastava, Arun Kumar Gupta and Arvind Kumar Rao.
