Aizawl: The state coordination committee on traffic management convened a meeting at which it reviewed the registration and use of two-wheeler and four-wheeler taxis following the launch of the Mizotaxi app. The committee also considered extending the registration deadline by three months.The meeting was chaired by chief secretary Khilli Ram Meena at the chief secretary’s conference hall in Aizawl on Friday.During the meeting, transport department secretary C Lalruaia said a total of 1,570 vehicles had registered on the app as of Friday. These included 397 four-wheeler taxis, 1,149 two-wheeler taxis and 24 autorickshaws. The app recorded 28,553 ride requests, while 279 taxi drivers were active online on Friday.The discussions emphasised that the app serves as an essential tool to ensure the implementation of official taxi fares fixed by the state transport authority, enhance passenger safety, and help alleviate traffic congestion and parking shortages within Aizawl city.The committee noted that previous extensions to the registration deadline had received a strong response and that public awareness of the app was increasing. It discussed opening a further three-month registration window for interested operators.The Mizotaxi app is a collaborative initiative developed jointly by Mizoram govt and a private company in association with NIT Mizoram.
