Ahmedabad: Ghanshyam Borse came to Gujarat High Court asking for one thing — directions to police to trace his 14-year-old son, missing since Aug 2025. Months later, the court directed him to withdraw his petition after police told the bench that Borse had gone to Maharashtra police and reportedly confessed to killing the boy, even as the child remains untraceable.Borse, a Surat resident, had first filed a missing complaint at Dindoli police station in Aug 2025. In March, saying he felt police were not doing enough, he moved HC with a habeas corpus petition, suspecting the boy might be with his separated wife in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. The couple divorced in 2017.As the search dragged on, the case took a turn when it came to HC’s notice that Jalgaon police had questioned Borse and that he had reportedly told them he himself had killed the child. The information set off alarm within Dindoli police, which intensified their investigation. Borse later retracted the statement before Gujarat police, claiming it was made under duress and was untrue.Investigators sought to subject him to SDS (Suspect Detection System) and LVA (Layered Voice Analysis) to assess whether he was speaking the truth. Borse refused. Police then approached a Surat court for permission to conduct the tests, but the court declined, citing his lack of consent.In HC proceedings, police disclosed the confession and said they would move a revisional court to secure permission for the tests. Borse’s advocate Bhishma Rawal told the court that the statement before Jalgaon police was “made by the petitioner out of frustration”.On Monday, a bench of Justice Ilesh Vora and Justice RT Vachhani pointed to the statement and observed that it amounted to an admission. The court said it would be in Borse’s best interest to withdraw the petition in the circumstances, and recorded in its order, “Accordingly, the present application stands disposed of as not pressed.”The missing-person probe remains pending with Dindoli police. Rawal told TOI he had advised his client to undergo the tests to come clean.
