Middleman held taking Rs 50k bribe for engr

Bhilwara/Jaipur: A middleman allegedly collecting a bribe for a junior engineer (JEN) in Samagra Shiksha office in Bhilwara was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Thursday after accepting Rs 50,000 from a contractor whose Rs 8.82 lakh work bill was pending for clearance. However, only Rs 10,000 of the recovered amount was genuine currency; the remaining Rs 40,000 comprised dummy notes used in the trap. The arrested accused, Shrenik Chaudhary, allegedly collected the money on behalf of Anil Bhatt, a contractual junior engineer posted at the office of the additional district project coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Bhilwara. The complainant alleged that Bhatt had demanded Rs 50,000 to clear the first running bill for civil works executed by his firm in Raipur panchayat block. He had also allegedly sought another Rs 10,000 towards testing charges.DG (ACB) Govind Gupta said the bureau verified the complaint and established that Bhatt had directed the contractor to hand over the Rs 50,000 to Chaudhary. The trap was laid near Garg petrol pump, close to the railway crossing in Bhilwara. Chaudhary was sitting in his Swift car when he allegedly accepted the money from the complainant. An ACB team led by DSP Parasmal of the Bhilwara-I unit arrested him and recovered the amount.
