Kolkata: Bengal BJP seniors on Thursday pointed to the need for restraint on a number of issues. President Samik Bhattacharya on Thursday distanced the party from the Lake View School debate over the removal of Karl Marx and Che Guevara photographs. He said the party might have ideological differences, but it would not insult anyone. “Neither BJP, nor RSS have given any such instruction. We may be opposed to any political philosophy, but Indian culture does not endorse insulting anyone,” Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said. On Wednesday, representatives of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), an RSS-affiliated school teachers’ wing, demanded the removal of portraits of Karl Marx, Mao Zedong, and Ho Chi Minh and Che Guevara.“It is not in our culture,” Bhattacharya said at a rally in Nandigram on Thursday. Reacting to tearing apart of Vivekananda’s poster at the SRFTI, Union minister Sukanta Majumdar said the party does not believe in thrashing Karl Marx’s statue simply because of its ideological differences with the Left philosophies. Bhattacharya on Thursday said the party has even opposed the “egg therapy” culture.State’s minister Dilip Ghosh also asked party workers to show restraint while referring to the attack at Birbhum’s Trinamool leader Anubrata Mandal’s office and vandalism. Bhattacharya said BJP would not engage in such petty actions.
