LUCKNOW: Celebrations in Rae Bareli turned into mourning after a 50-year-old mason allegedly died by suicide hours after performing kanyadaan at his daughter’s wedding. Family members attributing the death to financial distress and wedding-related debt.The incident was reported from Dighaura Sommao village. The deceased was identified as Kaushal.According to relatives, Kaushal’s eldest daughter, Khushboo, was married to Dinesh of Unnao. The baraat arrived on July 7, and the ceremonies were completed.Family members said that on July 8 morning, Kaushal performed the kanyadaan. Around 11 am, shortly before vidai, he left the house quietly without informing anyone.When it was time for Khushboo’s departure, she asked family members to call her father. Relatives searched for him but failed to locate him. Believing he may have stepped away to rest, the family proceeded with the farewell in his absence, while the search continued.Around 7pm, villagers spotted a body hanging from a tree near Kaushal’s house. Police were informed and the body was brought down.Kaushal is survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons. His elder son, Suraj, alleged that his father had been under severe financial stress due to wedding expenses. He claimed the family had taken loans, leaving Kaushal worried about repayment and the future marriages of his younger daughters.Station house officer Praveen Kumar Singh said preliminary findings indicate financial hardship may have led to the alleged suicide. He said police are examining all angles, and further action will be taken after the post-mortem report.
