Man thrashed with iron rod, hockey stick by labour contractor, mason dies

Gurgaon: A 33-year-old worker died three days after he was allegedly beaten with an iron rod and a hockey stick following a dispute over work in Badshahpur, police said.The assault on Shrikesh Kumar, a native of Bhagalpur in Bihar, took place on Oct 4. Shrikesh and his brother, Abhinav Kumar, worked as labourers in the Badshahpur area.According to the complaint filed by Abhinav, a dispute broke out between him, Shrikesh, contractor Jitendra and mason Sandeep over company material on Oct 4. The matter was resolved at the time, and the brothers returned to their shanty after finishing the day’s work. However, Jitendra and Sandeep allegedly followed them home and started abusing them.An altercation broke out during which the two men allegedly attacked Shrikesh with an iron rod and a hockey stick, hitting him on the head, following which he collapsed and lost consciousness. The accused fled the spot after the assault.Shrikesh was rushed to the Civil Hospital but was later referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital in view of his critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.Police have registered a case under BNS Section 103 (murder) based on the complaint filed at the Badshahpur station, naming Jitendra and Sandeep as the accused.Police conducted a postmortem and handed over the body to the family. Further investigation is underway, and police teams are tracing the accused, who remain on the run, and conducting raids at all possible hideouts.
