Man stabs father-in-law to death, injures his wife; on the run

Ghaziabad: A domestic dispute turned fatal when a 60-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his son-in-law in Modinagar on Thursday night. The accused also injured his wife as she attempted to stop the attack, police said.The deceased has been identified as Anar Singh, a resident of Fafrana Road, Modinagar area, retired from a company of the Modi Group. He is survived by his wife, Sharda Devi, three daughters — Sonia, Monica and Renu — and a son, Deepanshu.The accused, Sandeep Chaudhary, originally from Bulandshahr, was employed as an MR with a pharmaceutical company. He was living with his wife, Monica, and their son in a rented house in Brahmpuri Colony, Modinagar. The couple had a love marriage nearly 18 years ago.Monica alleged that Sandeep frequently assaulted her while drunk. Citing persistent abuse, she moved to her parents’ home three months ago. Despite several meetings between the two families, she refused to return.A senior police officer said Sandeep arrived at Monica’s parents’ home around 9 pm on Thursday with his face covered and demanded that she return with him. When an argument broke out, he allegedly stabbed Monica’s father, Anar Singh, in the stomach after he intervened.Monica sustained injuries to her hand while trying to stop him, and her mother, Sharda Devi, was pushed aside before the accused fled. Anar was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment.Police suspect Sandeep was keeping watch on the house and entered after Monica’s brother, Deepanshu, stepped out to collect medicines for their father, who was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi for a blood infection and suspected cancer.Investigators said Deepanshu left the gate open while leaving, which allowed Sandeep to enter. Police believe the accused expected only Monica and her elderly parents to be inside and intended to threaten her into returning with him.A complaint has been lodged at Kotwali police station by Deepanshu against Sandeep Chaudhary.Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP (Rural), said an FIR has been registered against Sandeep under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on the family’s complaint. Five police teams have been formed to trace the accused, while CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined.
