Margao: Goa University has suspended its main canteen contractor after allegations surfaced that worms were found in food served to students on campus. The university said temporary arrangements would be put in place to ensure uninterrupted food services until a new contractor is appointed. The action came after members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) stormed the registrar’s office and staged a protest inside the cabin, demanding immediate corrective measures, strict accountability, and regular monitoring of food quality on campus. The protest followed an earlier demonstration by BJYM workers outside the university’s administrative block, where they accused the administration of ignoring long-standing complaints about the canteen’s functioning.President of BJYM, Tushar Kelkar, said they would not rest until alternative arrangements for the students’ mess are made following the suspension of the contractor. He also demanded an inquiry into why previous complaints to the authorities over substandard food were ignored. Regular monitoring of food quality by the university’s authorities was also demanded.
