Chandigarh: A man was arrested for allegedly assaulting police personnel after creating a disturbance near Hotel Mountview in Sector 10 Friday evening. A constable sustained an eye injury, while a home guard volunteer suffered a bite injury during the incident.Police said constable Vipin Dahiya and home guard volunteer Jasbir were patrolling the Sector 9/10 area when they received information around 7.30pm about a man creating a ruckus near a spot where a suspected thief had reportedly been caught.When the PCR team reached the location, they found a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol creating a commotion. Police said they tried to calm him down and seated him in the PCR vehicle, but he allegedly began arguing with personnel, abused them and attempted to flee.During the ensuing scuffle, the accused allegedly punched constable Dahiya three to four times in the right eye. When Jasbir intervened, the man allegedly bit the little finger of his right hand.Additional police personnel were called to the spot and overpowered the accused. He was taken to the Sector 10 beat box, where he was identified as Samarth, a resident of Sector 11. Police said he continued to behave aggressively even after being detained.A case has been registered and the accused arrested.
