Ahmedabad: AMC issues notices to 511 food units, destroys 1,543kg of inedible food in July

Ahmedabad: The health and food department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) inspected 1,689 food-related units across the city in July as part of its drive against unhygienic practices and food safety violations.During the monthlong inspection campaign, notices were issued to 511 establishments for unhygienic conditions and other regulatory lapses. AMC officials destroyed 1,543kg of inedible food and 1,066 litres of inedible liquid found during inspections.Five establishments were sealed in the month for unhygienic conditions. During the same period, two food samples were found to be unsafe for consumption, leading authorities to seize 2,000kg of chilli powder and 1,500 packets of various snack products.As part of routine surveillance, AMC collected 783 food samples from units across the city and sent them to the Public Health Laboratory for analysis. Sweets and bakery items accounted for the highest number of samples collected, with 182 samples undergoing testing.The civic body said the inspections were aimed at ensuring food safety standards and preventing the sale of substandard or unsafe food products to consumers.
