Man held after 20 years in ₹37 lakh bank fraud case

Chennai: Central Crime Branch of the Chennai Police arrested a 60-year-old man in Bengaluru on Friday, nearly 20 years after he helped mortgage another person’s property using forged documents to obtain a ₹37 lakh bank loan, police said. Harinarayanan, son of Parthasarathy, was wanted in a case registered in 2007 on a complaint from Philomina Rani, wife of Ponnusamy. The case involved a 6,772-square-foot plot at Kamaraj Avenue in Sridevi Garden, Valasaravakkam. Police said a co-accused, Leemaraj, obtained a fake legal heir certificate and forged documents for the property. He colluded with Harinarayanan to mortgage the plot with a private bank in New Delhi and secure a ₹37 lakh loan, they said. On Friday, a special CCB team traced him to Bengaluru and arrested him.
