IRCTC wallet money stays locked when Tatkal tickets are sold out

Chennai: Passengers who load money into their IRCTC wallets for Tatkal bookings cannot transfer unused balances back to their bank accounts if tickets sell out or bookings fail. They often use the wallet to avoid payment failures when heavy traffic strains payment gateways and servers during peak booking hours. But unused money remains in the wallet and can be used only for future railway bookings. Passengers have asked IRCTC to allow them to withdraw the balance. Railway officials said they would escalate the issue and address the passengers’ concerns.
