Gurgaon: A 38-year-old man was found dead in a pond in Sidhrawali on Thursday afternoon, prompting police to initiate inquest proceedings to ascertain the cause of death.According to police, the deceased, Nitin, a resident of Jharsa village, went to visit relatives in Sidhrawali and had been missing since Wednesday night. No missing person complaint was filed in connection with his disappearance.Police reached the spot after being alerted by local residents and recovered the body, which was found floating in a village pond.“During the preliminary examination, we found no visible external injury marks on the body,” a police officer said. He also added that only a further post-mortem will determine the exact cause, which will lead to legal proceedings and a criminal case, if any.Since no complaint has been filed by the family and there is a lack of immediate evidence suggesting a criminal offence, police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with inquest proceedings in cases of unnatural or unexplained deaths, at Bilaspur police station.Police have said that the deceased’s family has not expressed any suspicion of foul play or accused anyone in connection with the death. Investigators are, however, examining all possible circumstances that may have led to the incident. Police are also speaking to family members and local residents to reconstruct Nitin’s movements before he disappeared.
