Noida: A man in his 50s was found dead in a roadside drain near a mall in Noida’s Sector 34 while rescuers were retrieving a car that hit a divider and fell into the same drain early Saturday, police said on Sunday. The man’s body has not yet been identified.Two occupants of the car, including the driver, were rescued. They were identified as Arman and Aniket, both residents of Noida. They were drunk at the time of the incident, police said. The two were unable to recollect if the car hit anyone, police added.Police are now examining CCTV footage to determine whether he was hit or accidentally fell into the drain. Police suspect the car was travelling at high speed when it crashed into the divider.A senior police officer said the police received information about the accident through dial 112. A team from the Sector 24 police station reached the spot immediately and retrieved the car, a Skoda Slavia. It has been seized but a case was yet to be registered for drunk driving.“When the police team was recovering the vehicle from the drain, a man was found inside the nullah a short distance away. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.No external injuries were found on the body, which has been sent for autopsy. The report is awaited. No documents were recovered from the deceased, and his photographs have been circulated among police stations in the district and surrounding areas to establish his identity.
