Unsafe house near Bicholim school razed after 5 years
The building’s crumbling walls and deteriorating roof had particularly worried parents who waited near the building during school dispersal.

Bicholim: Authorities have demolished a dilapidated house near Shri Shantadurga High School in Bhailipeth, Bicholim. The structure was a long-standing safety hazard that raised concerns among students, parents, pedestrians, and motorists.Its crumbling walls and deteriorating roof had particularly worried parents who waited near the building during school dispersal. Social worker Raam Shirgaonkar and resident Shriram Rawool had repeatedly urged authorities to act on the unsafe structure over the past five years.Residents had earlier urged authorities to inspect and demolish the building, fearing it could collapse and cause injury. In July, they publicly raised concerns over its condition, with Rawool highlighting the risks it posed to parents and children in the area.Residents have welcomed the removal of the hazardous structure. “This was a serious concern for the locality for several years. The demolition will provide much-needed relief to students, parents and commuters,” said Shirgaonkar.
