New Delhi: A man was crushed to death after a private bus allegedly rolled backwards while passengers were pushing it towards a CNG pump in northeast Delhi’s Tahirpur Thursday. The driver fled the spot after the incident, police said.Police said they received a PCR call regarding a fatal road accident, after which a police team rushed to the spot. The victim was identified as Anwar Khan, a resident of Badayun district in Uttar Pradesh.Police said preliminary inquiry revealed that Khan had boarded the bus bearing a UP registration number from Kardampuri in northeast Delhi. “When the bus reached near the CNG pump at Tahirpur, it had stopped, following which Anwar Khan, along with a few other persons, got down and started pushing the bus towards the CNG pump from behind to help the bus driver,” a senior police officer said.During the process, the bus allegedly rolled backwards. “The bus came rolling down and Anwar Khan got crushed between the bus and a truck that was standing right behind it,” the officer added.The incident was witnessed by the victim’s son, Amjad Khan, who was present at the spot. In his statement to police, Amjad said his father had been pushing the bus along with other passengers when the vehicle suddenly rolled back, trapping him between the bus and the truck.Anwar Khan was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, police said.“The driver fled the spot. However, the offending vehicle has been taken into police possession,” the officer said.Police said the crime scene was examined by the district crime team and officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), who inspected the spot and collected evidence.A case has been registered, cops said, adding that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.
