Man booked for running over stray dog, brandishing pistol

TNNLudhiana: A man driving an SUV allegedly ran over a stray dog and threatened area residents with a pistol when they confronted him. The incident took place in Haibowal.Police registered a case against the accused, Ravinder Singh, on the complaint of Parmjit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Dev Nagar, and launched an investigation.The complainant said a young woman approached him in a distressed state at around 10.30pm when he was out feeding dogs. She said an SUV had run over a dog, which needed urgent help.As per the complainant, when he and other residents reached the spot, they found the animal dead. The accused was present at the spot. The complainant said that on being confronted, the accused allegedly tried to intimidate them with a pistol.Local sources said that the accused was reportedly from Chandigarh and was visiting his in-laws.Haibowal police filed a case against the accused under Section 325 of BNS, which pertains to mischief involving the killing or maiming of an animal.Police said investigators are verifying the license of the firearm used in the incident. They added that further investigation is underway.In March 2026, Sahnewal Police arrested a local woman for allegedly beating two puppies to death with a stick after they fouled the area outside her home.
