Man accused of posing as Lok Sabha staffer held after decade on the run

New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Jitendra Pathak, who had been absconding for nearly 10 years, in connection with a case involving allegations that he impersonated an employee of Lok Sabha Secretariat and cheated a private individual with the promise of securing him a job in Parliament.CBI registered the case on July 13, 2009, against Pathak and others for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 50,000. Subsequently, the agency filed a chargesheet against Pathak and another accused.During the trial proceedings, Pathak failed to appear before the court after the chargesheet was filed in Dec 2009. Despite sustained efforts by the agency to trace him, he remained untraceable. After completion of the prescribed legal formalities, the trial court declared him a proclaimed offender on Sept 28, 2016.The agency continued its search and recently received inputs that Pathak was living in Ludhiana, Punjab. Acting on the information, CBI launched an operation and arrested him in Ludhiana on Aug 19.
