Ludhiana: The Ludhiana municipal corporation is replacing its traditional seasonal control room with a technology-driven monsoon war room to handle urban flooding and infrastructure complaints this rainy season. Municipal commissioner Ojasvi Alankar announced that a dedicated helpline number will soon be launched alongside the deployment of rapid action teams consisting of sewer cleaners and specialized field staff to handle civic emergencies. To modernise its response, the civic body plans to utilise the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). This tech integration allows senior administrative authorities to monitor real-time flooding and field operations across Ludhiana directly from the central MC headquarters, moving away from the older system where a single clerk manually logged and forwarded resident complaints.During a review meeting at the MC Zone D office, commissioner Alankar fixed absolute accountability among civic officials and declared that no laxity would be tolerated. Ground-level senior officials have been ordered to submit formal completion certificates verifying critical preventative works, including cleaning road gullies, ensuring secure manhole covers, desilting internal drains, and strengthening the structural embankments of the Buddha Dariya. The localised anti-flooding measures are being paired with public health and inter-departmental safety protocols. Zonal and joint commissioners have been directed to conduct regular field monitoring, while sanitation teams must execute timely chlorination and fogging to curb vector-borne and water-borne diseases. Furthermore, officials have been ordered to coordinate closely with the irrigation department to ensure the desilting of the Buddha Dariya continues smoothly beyond the city limits.
