Ludhiana: Police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually harassing his minor stepdaughter at their residence on the night of August 25.The incident occurred while the victim was sleeping in her room and her mother was asleep in an adjoining room. According to the victim’s statement, the accused entered her room under the cover of darkness and sexually harassed her.The girl managed to free herself and immediately fled to her mother’s room to report the incident. The victim and her mother subsequently lodged a written complaint at the local police station.Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)—pertaining to assault or criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty—and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.Police said the victim’s mother had married the accused approximately 14 to 15 years ago. The arrested accused was produced before a local court for further legal proceedings.
