Lucknow soaked as monsoon gains momentum

Lucknow: Dark clouds, intermittent showers and cooler temperatures marked another monsoon-soaked day in Lucknow on Thursday, offering respite from oppressive humidity.The IMD has predicted that the active monsoon system will keep the capital and several parts of Uttar Pradesh under the influence of moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days.While the city recorded 27.2 mm of rainfall, Bijnor received the highest rainfall in Uttar Pradesh at 306 mm, followed by Etah (222 mm) and Sambhal (204 mm).The meteorological observatory at Amausi recorded 27.2 mm of rainfall. The maximum temperature settled at 33 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 27.2 degrees Celsius, 1.2 degrees above normal. Relative humidity remained high, ranging between 74% and 94%.Rain began around noon in several parts of the city before spreading to most areas. The showers brought relief from sultry weather, while dark clouds continued to hover over Lucknow through the afternoon, with intermittent spells of rain in some localities.Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, said, “The monsoon trough is extending from Madhya Pradesh across west Uttar Pradesh towards the eastern parts of the state, creating favourable conditions for moderate to heavy rainfall in the state, including Lucknow, for the next few days.”Across the state, Bijnor recorded the highest rainfall at 306 mm, followed by Etah with 222 mm and Sambhal with 204 mm.
