Bengaluru: A late-night joyride turned fatal for two young nursing students after their bike crashed into a road divider near Doddabele Junction on Mysuru Road in the wee hours of Saturday.The deceased have been identified as Atul and Gouri Shankar, both 21-year-old students of SJB College of Nursing in Kengeri.Based on the preliminary investigation, police said a group of students had gone for a jolly ride to Kanmanike on Mysuru Road to have coffee on their two-wheelers. Atul and Shankar were riding a Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle while returning. Between 2am and 2.15am, the rider lost control of the bike and crashed into a road divider, throwing both riders onto the road.The impact left the duo with severe injuries. Their friends riding on other two-wheelers, along with passersby, rushed them to the nearby Rajarajeshwari Hospital. However, both students succumbed to their injuries. Police were alerted about their deaths around 6am.Kengeri traffic police have registered a case of self-accident against Atul. The bodies were handed over to their families after the post-mortem examination, and further investigation is in progress.

Bengaluru: A reckless driving incident involving a minivan near BDA Indraprastha Apartment in Kengeri on Mysuru Road claimed a life and left six others injured after it rammed into multiple vehicles before overturning on Saturday morning.The accident occurred at around 6.45am. According to the complaint filed by Mallu, 23, an eyewitness who works at a fuel station, the minivan bearing registration number KA-50-MB-4544 was travelling from the RV College side towards Kengeri when the driver lost control and swerved abruptly to the left. The van first crashed into a scooter and a bike that were travelling ahead in the same direction. The impact caused the van to overturn and slam into an electric pole on the roadside.The riders of the two-wheelers and Sukhdev, a 41-year-old resident of Marathahalli, who was travelling in the minivan, were thrown onto the road. Sukhdev suffered critical injuries and died while being shifted to the hospital. The injured include Parejan, the scooter rider, and Ashoka and Rahul, who were on the bike. Other occupants of the van, including Abhijit and Bhagirath, also sustained injuries.Preliminary investigations suggest that rash and negligent driving by the minivan driver, identified as Swaroop Chand, 25, led to the chain-reaction collision. He escaped with minor injuries. Parejan’s condition is critical, while the others are out of danger.Kengeri traffic police have registered a case against Chand.
