Lucknow: Improved salaries, upgraded infrastructure and stronger incentives are essential to retain highly trained super-specialists in govt hospitals, top graduates from King George’s Medical University (KGMU) said after the university’s convocation ceremony on Monday. The super-speciality toppers said better remuneration, facilities and working conditions would help attract and keep more specialists in the public health care system.Dr Jitendra Yadav, who topped the MCh (Urology) programme, said specialists invest nearly 17 years in training and expect financial security, adding that private health care offers better monetary benefits. DM Pulmonary Medicine topper Dr Shubhra Shrivastava from Aligarh said retaining specialists in govt hospitals remains difficult as many doctors seek higher-paying opportunities elsewhere.DM Cardiology topper Dr Saket Ramraika said private hospitals typically have better infrastructure, which supports smoother patient management. He noted that patients paying for premium care often get faster access to beds and facilities, but such services are unaffordable for many. The toppers said narrowing pay and infrastructure gaps would strengthen public health care.
